The
wildlife of Poleski
National Park is
extremely rich, although it covers only around 10.000 hectares and
most of the area is water- peat bog. Diversity of habitats favours existence of numerous
species of plants and animals, including species present only in this region of
Poland.
Poleski National
Park represents the wildlife of Lenczynsko-Wlodawska Plain and includes
natural lowland bog, mid and high peat bog, with their own diversity of
species. Every year, after winter time, they form picturesque pools which
attract migrating water-marshbirds, whereas permanent pools are a feeding and
nesting ground to numerous species. Due to a vast diversity of habitats, flora
and invertebrate lovers won’t be disappointed. There grow insect-eating plants,
orchidsOrchidaceae and many others of postglacial origins. The
park is a sanctuary of the moose Alces
alces, marsh turtle Emys orbicularis,
beaver Castor fiber and otter Lutra lutra.
